Chris Adrian liked what he saw.
Adrian conducted team camp this week for his McPherson High boys and girls soccer teams, with close to 50 players combined.
The MHS boys will be starting practice a month from today, while the girls play in the spring of 2018.
“Both the boys and girls soccer teams have some real talent and understand how to play the game,” said Adrian, who has been fielding powerhouse teams the last few years. “It was great seeing them pushed this week and both teams showed lots of improvement.”
The boys are going to be a relatively young team this fall as they must replace four-year standouts and All-Staters Andric McGill and Patrick Munsey, two of the all-time greats ever to play for MHS.
“For the boys, we may be a little low on numbers but the talent is there and the players’ understanding of the game is extremely high,” Adrian said. “They are going to pass the ball around a lot of teams and will be fun to watch.”
The girls could be looking at something special next spring as they have been on the cusp of greatness for the past three years.
“For the girls, next year's team is going to once again be unbelievably deep,” he said. “I could field two teams of 11 players that could compete against anyone.”
Adrian said one of the highlights of the camp was that college coaches from McPherson College, Central Christian College and Tabor helped with some of the exercises.
