DODGE CITY — McPherson’s Jacob Lackey finished in a tie for eighth place on Wednesday in the Kansas Junior Sectional Championships at Mariah Hills Golf Course.
Lackey, who was second after Tuesday’s first round with a 74, shot matching 38s during his round on Wednesday.
His 150 total was four strokes off the pace of Kameron Shaw of Salina and Logan Durst of Garden City. Shaw won the title by winning a playoff.
Normally a birdie machine, Lackey was able to make only one on Wednesday.
Today begins the Kansas Match Play Tournament, which gathers the top 16 players in the state. Lackey is the No. 1 seed as he’s the leader in points for Kansas Junior Player of the Year. If he defeats Quentin Shaw of Salina in his first match, that would most likely set up a titanic second-round match with Zack Sokolosky of Andover.
