The Jeremy Manning volleyball era at Central Christian College kicked off successfully here Wednesday as the Tigers blanked Union College, 3-0.
The Tigers breezed to 25-18 and 25-12 victories in the first two sets, then were given more of a test in the finale, but prevailed 25-22.
The Tigers had 30 kills, led by Rebekah Glessner with 8. Hannah Fredrickson hustled to 25 assists, with Kacie Plett and Morgan Cook coming up with 8 digs apiece.
“We started off a bit slow, but the girls showed a ton of effort and heart to battle back from behind multiple times during the match,” Manning said. “They have the never-quit mentality and they put it on display tonight. We were a little rusty and unorganized at times, but the girls managed to get it together. Our hitters were swinging well and were pressuring the opposing defense all night.”
Central will compete this weekend in a tournament at Sterling. The Tigers open on Friday with matches against KCAC schools Sterling and Bethel. They play Baptist Bible and Presentation College on Saturday.
