ANDALE — McPherson High’s volleyball team pushed its winning streak to four and is now 8-2 on the season after sweeping a road triangular on Tuesday.
MHS unleashed its fury on Winfield for a pair of 25-13 routs and then toppled previously undefeated Andale, but it took three sets (25-22, 19-25, 25-10).
“Slow start versus Winfield and eventually we got it rolling,” MHS coach Christy Doile said. “Too many missed serves, for sure.”
The Bullpups faced a hostile environment against Andale, which pushed the Bullpups to the brink.
“Andale had a great crowd, great atmosphere,” Doile said. “Andale for sure used that to their advantage. Their crowd and student section was actively participating during and after a rally. Set 1 was back-and-forth, with neither team playing their best ball. Both teams were making unforced errors, keeping the game close. Once we our team reached the 20's we started to get our rhythm. Set 2, Andale — with their crowd roaring behind them — jumped out to a 10-4 lead. We were able to get within 3 points, but they held us off. Set 3 was all Mac, Meghan Smith served several in a row as we gained momentum and built a big lead.”
The Bullpups needed all hands on deck against Andale.
“Our defensive plays, led by Mickey (Bowers) and Bailea (Crist), had to happen to keep us in the match,” Doile said. “Elle Barrett and Cassie Cooks were powerful in the front row to put down rallies to get us points. Andrea Sweat dropped in some key tips to score some needed points as well. As always, Jaycee Burghart kept our offense rolling and had to be more creative, strategic to which offensive player got the ball to score points.”

The Bullpup JVs split, defeating Winfield and losing to Andale.
MHS is at Circle on Tuesday, with Winfield the third team.
