SALINA — It was an all-McPherson High singles final on Tuesday in the Salina JV Tennis Tournament.
Madison Schmidt outlasted teammate Cheyann Williams to win the title as the Bullpups rode their strong singles play to a third-place finish.
MHS scored 48 points to trail Salina Central (57) and Manhattan (55). Behind the Bullpups were Salina South (46), Junction City (24) and Sacred Heart (15).
Since MHS has only five JV players, Jensen Mierkiewicz played singles and was 1-3 for 10th. MHS thus had only one doubles team, Jacie Myers and Caitlin Faulk, and they were 2-2 for seventh.
“We switched the lineup around a little from previous meets and had a positive outcome for the most part,” MHS coach Noah Lindfors said. “Cheyann and Madison played very well today and playing a great match against each other in the finals. The other two entries ended the day with one win. I feel after switching some players around, they (and we coaches) learned more about what our strongest lineup should be.”
