CLAY CENTER —Top 10 finishes by Josh Peterson and Ryan Heline led Smoky Valley’s boys cross country team to a second-place finish Thursday in the Clay Center Invitational.
Peterson was fourth in 18:48 and Heline was sixth in 19:11.
They weren’t the only Vikings to medal. Also for the boys Zach Lott was 13th in 20:08, Ty Miller was 15th in 20:12 and Carter Couchman was 18th in 20:23 as the Vikes had five medalists.
Stephen Peterson was 21st in 20:40 and Logan Bodenheimer was 27th in 21:16.
The Viking girls were seventh, but had three medalists. Gracie Lott was 15th in 24:57, Kajsa Peterson was 20th in 25:30 and Hailey Priddy was 25th in 26:07.
Also for the Vikes, Nevada Acheson was 43rd in 29:34 and Taylor Koontz was 52nd in 32:55.
“I am extremely excited for the remainder of our season,” Smoky Valley coach Holly Lindquist said. “This was our first Varsity/JV meet, so it was nice to see how we compare to area teams. We had three of our five girls (Gracie, Kajsa, and Hailey) medal in the Top 30 of a competitive girls race. In the boys varsity race, we had five in the Top 20 (Josh, Ryan, Zach, Ty, and Carter) and Stephen was one out of a medal. It's nice to have a pack in the top portion of the race, and that will help us to be competitive at our future meets. The boys JV finished with two medals as well."
Here are the JV boys results:
Adin Replogle-5th - 21:42*
Julian Maldonado-6th - 22:15*
