The McPherson Fire Department was awarded the Life Safety Achievement Award for 2016 from the National Association of Fire Marshals and Grinnell Mutual Insurance. This award is based off a fire department’s proactive activities within the community for fire prevention, which specifically revolved around the McPherson Fire Department’s inspection and public education process.
“I’d like to personally thank all the businesses in this community who have accepted fire fighters coming into their businesses, allowing them to do fire inspections to help be proactive on that end,” McPherson Fire Chief Jeff Deal said.
In order to receive an award like this, it requires everybody to be on the same page throughout the community and to give the fire department their full support in making sure everybody is safe.
“I’d like to thank all the contractors involved in the process of building new construction in our community and all their openness to the codes and allowing us to implement the process as necessary to make sure that we’re providing proper fire protection to them," Deal said. "Proper water, proper sprinklers, hydrant locations, all of those things that go into producing a community that receives an award like this.”
The McPherson Fire Department also received a community support award of $1,500 in hopes of being good partners in McPherson County from EDF Renewable Energy, who will be setting up a wind farm project just outside of Lindsborg.
