Fearless picks K-State to upset TCU

Fearless Forecaster continued on the comeback trail last week.

A 15-3 week by our picker moved his overall record to 106-29 as he’s now just a couple of percentage points away from his coveted 80 percent goal.

Fearless was spotless in the AVCTL and area games. He dropped two KCAC games as Bethany’s season-opening magic ran out against Saint Mary, which had not won a game in league play, while Sterling outlasted Tabor in a clash of KCAC titans. It’s been a Fearless rule that he never picks against Bluejay coach Mike Gardner in a big game, but Sterling overcame the FF prediction.

The other loss was K-State, as FF did not think the Wildcats would lose to Texas, which seems to be back to form under new coach Tom Herman.

McPherson 27, Hays 7 — The long trip always takes something out of the Bullpups, but Hays has had trouble scoring points the last three weeks.

Buhler 38, Andale 35 – Game of the night and maybe in Kansas. We’re going to find out a lot about both teams.

Andover Central 20, Rose Hill 14 — Rose Hill is not nearly as bad as its 1-5 record indicates. It would be a different story if so many of the Rockets’ starters weren’t injured.

Maize South 28, Augusta 6 — Fearless just can’t see the Orioles putting up many points against that rigid South defense.

Wellington 24, Winfield 14 — The Vikings are getting better, but not enough to win.

El Dorado 35, Circle 14 – El Dorado rang up 55 on Fearless’ Indy Bulldogs last week and the Wildcats haven’t exactly been an offensive juggernaut.

Last week — 4-0. Season 24-3

• AREA •

Sedgwick 28, Moundridge 21 — This is probably for the district title. Simply by comparative scores of common opponents, it appears the slight edge goes to Sedgwick.

Little River 52, Canton-Galva 38 — This game will probably determine the No. 2 district qualifier behind Central Plains. The Redskins have the better defense and played Central Plains much closer than the Eagles.

Hesston 38, Hillsboro 14 — Don’t look now, but the Swathers may be getting it figured out.

Smoky Valley 28, Rock Creek 14 — The Vikings will be tested, but they’re tough to beat at home.

Remington 27, Inman 20 — Remington barely lost to Moundridge and the Teutons were blown out last week by the Wildcats.

Last week — 5-0. Season — 23-10.

• KCAC •

Ottawa 38, McPherson College 24 — The Bulldogs are still searching for that signature win.

Sterling 52, Bethany 35 — The Swedes gave up nearly 600 yards to Saint Mary. Hard to imagine the Swedes being able to slow down the nationally ranked Warriors.

Tabor 44, Southwestern 10 — Southwestern is in the wrong place at the wrong time after a rare Tabor conference loss.

Kansas Wesleyan 42, Friends 35 — This should tell us more about Friends, which has been playing the good teams close.

Saint Mary 48, Bethel 14 — The Threshers are running out of chances to win a game.

Last week – 3-2. Season — 26-9.

• BIG 12 •

Iowa State 63, Kansas 21 — It’s beyond sad to see the Kansas program sinking to such an ignominious level.

Kansas State 35, TCU 31 — The Wildcats are home and Bill Snyder rarely loses two in a row in conference play. They hand TCU its first loss and get back into the Big 12 race. Alex Delton has a chance to become a hero in his first start.

West Virginia 56, Texas Tech 49 — Let the pouring of points commence.

Oklahoma 51, Texas 31 — Baker Mayfield needs a monster game to get back into the Heisman lead.

Oklahoma State 49, Baylor 42 — Just another of the defenseless games in the Big 12.

Last week — 3-1. Season — 33-7.
