MEADE — Canton-Galva’s Leah Silsby missed qualifying for the state cross country meet by less than a minute on Saturday during the 2A regional meet.
The Eagle freshman took 20th place in 24:46.
“Leah ran her life-best time today,” C-G coach Lyle Silsby said. “She also has battled injuries this season, but has shown marked improvement over the past three weeks and it was great to see her run the way I knew she could.”
Two C-G boys competed. Chase Klinkerman was 34th in 20:52 and Dawson Minson was 62nd in 23:22.
“Chase was 40 seconds faster on the Meade course this year than he was last year and today the conditions made it tough to show improvement,” Silsby said. “The wind was a big factor and he showed his toughness. Dawson didn't run his fastest time of the season, but he did run his best race of the season. After fighting through injury most of the season he ended his senior season on a good performance.”
Silsby was pleased with all three.
“All three kids that ran today ran their best races of the season and I am very proud of all of them,” he said.
