Mac harriers compete at Winfield

WINFIELD — The McPherson College cross country teams wrapped up their regular-season slate Saturday morning at the NAIA Midstates Classic hosted by Southwestern College at the Winfield Veterans Home.

McPherson finished 11th in the men's race with 322 points, while the Bulldogs took 12th in the women's race with 370 points.

Jonathan Dominguez was McPherson's top finisher in the men's race with a 49th-place time of 27:33.1. Jerod Fuller was next in 56th place (27:55.8), followed by Jesse Freeman in 62nd place (28:09.6). The Bulldog effort was rounded out by Casey Zimmerman in 82nd (28:40.3), Felix Cervantes in 106th (29:44.3), Alex Schuetz in 148th (32:38.6) and Kevin Boeckman in 149th (33:02.0).

For the McPherson women, leading the way was LeaAnn Myers with a 76th-place finish (21:59.7). Ane' Archuleta edged out Samantha Nelson for 83rd place. Archuleta finished in 22:07.2, while Nelson crossed the line in 22:08.6. Not far behind was Rachel Foreman in 90th (22:39.2). Cassandra Valenzuela in 96th (22:50.8), Taylor Dreiling in 103rd (23:21.3) and Alyssa Wilson in 126th (25:22.7) rounded out the Bulldog contingent.

Oklahoma City University's Mark Shaw won the men's race by 26 seconds with a 24:33.4 clocking, while OCU's Aminat Olowora took the women's race in the time of 17:28.8.

Wayland Baptist edged out Oklahoma City University, 29-31, for the women's team title, while Missouri Valley College won the men's team title with 51 points.

The Bulldogs take next weekend off from competition before competing in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) championships Nov. 4 at Rolling Acres Golf Course north of McPherson.
