Fearless Forecaster continues to claw his way toward his coveted 80 percent season goal, but he is still one big week away from getting there.
Fearless was a mediocre 17-5 last week and now stands at 140-38 on the season for just about 79 percent. He needs a one- or two-loss week to get back to the gold standard.
He had two misses in the AVCTL last week as he liked Winfield to outlast Ulysses and he also missed, just as I predicted, on Andover Central and Augusta. I mentioned last week that he had picked Andover Central, then scratched it out.
Fearless missed on Moundridge and Medicine Lodge, as the Wildcats were ousted from the playoffs with a somewhat surprising 15-6 loss.
In the KCAC, Bethany went down in flames to lowly Southwestern to cost FF, while Saint Mary didn’t roll up big points like he thought it would in losing to Ottawa.
• AVCTL D-III •
McPherson 42, Abilene 14 — The 14 number might seem high, but MHS coach Jace Pavlovich may get his first-team defense out of the game early to save it for next week.
Buhler 45, Circle 0 — The Crusaders are already looking ahead to next Friday’s showdown at McPherson Stadium.
Augusta 28, Rose Hill 14 — No playoffs for the Orioles this year, but they avoid an O-fer in the district.
Maize South 26, Andover Central 14 — The Mavericks, like McPherson, will finish 8-1 for the regular season.
Mulvane 38, Winfield 20 — The Wildcats have their stud QB back, which is bad news for Winfield.
• Last week— 4-2. Season — 33-6

Smoky Valley 21, Clay Center 14 — These two teams played a classic last year and will do the same this year.
Canton-Galva 52, Ellinwood 34 — For C-G coach Shelby Hoppes, 5-4 looks a lot better than 4-5.
Sedgwick 40, Inman 6 — Time for the Teutons to erase this year from the memory bank and look to next year.
Prue, Oklahoma 26, Moundridge 12 — Prue reportedly has just one loss, but it struggled with the ‘Cats last year.
Little River 45, St. John 0 — The Redskins roll into the playoffs with a full head of steam.
Hesston 55, Marion 48 — Wildly entertaining game of the week. The Swathers can put up a lot of points, they also give up a lot.
Last week — 5-1. Season — 33-11.
• KCAC •
Saint Mary 35, McPherson College 28 — Saint Mary has the best passing team in the KCAC and that’s the Achilles Heel for the Bulldogs.
Kansas Wesleyan 42, Bethany 35 — Shootout time in Lindsborg.
Tabor 31, Friends 10 — The Bluejays still seem like the best team in the KCAC.
Sterling 33, Ottawa 28 — Potential roadblock for Sterling.
Southwestern 35, Bethel 27 — The Threshers are getting better, but just not good enough to win a game.
• Last week — 3-2. Season — 32-13.
• BIG 12 •
Texas 38, Baylor 35 — This might go the other way. Baylor is due.
Kansas State 61, Kansas 0 — No explanation needed.
TCU 31, Iowa State 28 — This is the game everybody wants to see. TCU knows it has some heavyweights still to come and can’t afford a loss in dangerous Ames.
Oklahoma 56, Texas Tech 28 — After last week’s scare, the Sooners will be focused.
West Virginia 42, Oklahoma State 38 — Upset alert. Oklahoma State just hasn’t been as good defensively as expected.
• Last week — 5-0. Season — 42-8.
