McPherson College’s streaking men’s soccer team clinched the No. 2 seed in the upcoming KCAC Postseason Tournament with a 3-0 victory Tuesday over arch-rival Kansas Wesleyan at McPherson Stadium.
Greg Roller gave Mac a 1-0 halftime lead that it held until the 55th minute when Diego Loza scored off an assist by Edward Gomez to make it 2-0. Soon after, Navid Istanbullu gave the Bulldogs the clincher unassisted.
Jose Alonso picked up the win in goal as Mac finished KCAC regular-season play with an 8-2 record and is 10-6 overall.
“Tonight I was certainly pleased with the result, but not happy with our performance," Mac coach Doug Quint. "We didn't play very well at all. Our team never really established a rhythm in possession and had way too many unforced turnovers or errant passes. At the end of the day. though, it's a win and we will take it. It's always nice to get a win when you don't play particularly well."
The Bulldogs, riding a five-game winning streak, host York College at 7 p.m. Saturday at McPherson Stadium in the first round of the playoffs. The teams met last week with the Bulldogs carving out a 6-1 win.
• KW WOMEN 2, MAC 0 — The Bulldogs were shut out in their final regular-season game, but slipped into the postseason as the No. 7 seed.
Mac finished KCAC play 4-7 and is 7-9 overall.
The Coyotes scored a goal in each half. Mac’s Christie Silber was kept busy with seven saves.
The Bulldogs will be on the road for the quarterfinal tournament game as they play at Ottawa, with starting time 6 p.m. Saturday.
