PLAINVIEW, Texas — Sooner Athletic Conference regular-season champion Wayland Baptist dispatched with Central Christian College’s men’s soccer team 5-0 Thursday in the first round of the SAC Postseason Tournament.

The Tigers played the Pioneers close in the first meeting earlier this season and that was the case for a half this time as well. Wayland Baptist led only 1-0 at the break, but the Tigers ran out of gas and the Pioneers started to dent the CCC goal.

“I thought we were doing OK in the first half when we had the energy and legs to compete,” Central coach Aaron Hoxie said. "We created a couple of chances and some half-chances and had some fortune on the defensive end. Being down by one kept us more motivated, but that was coming to an end and I figured time was coming. Once the second goal happened, that was the backbreaker."

Central, 10-8-1, is done with the NAIA portion of its season, but it will forge on in the NCCAA Regional Tournament later this month.
