Central Christian College’s men’s basketball team is a whole lot better when Jubril Osagie is on the floor.
Because of foul trouble on Tuesday in the Tigers’ season opener, Osagie played only 13 minutes, but scored 11 points.
On Saturday against Barclay College at Alexander Arena, Osagie stayed out of foul trouble. And that had devastating results for the Bears.
Osagie poured in a career-high 34 points, making 13 of 21 floor shots, and also had 12 rebounds to complete his double-double as the Tigers outlasted the wouldn’t-go-away Bears, 89-79.
Cam Martin and Paul Ard II chipped in with 11 points apiece and Kendric Warren swept the glass for 10 rebounds.
The Tigers struggled at the line by making just 20 of 34, but hit 9 of 22 from 3-point. They did have some execution problems with 22 turnovers.
It was a 39-29 game at the half and both teams hit the half-century mark in the second half with 50 points apiece.
The 2-0 Tigers now gear up to head across town on Wednesday to play rival McPherson College, which is 1-2 so far and missing four starters due to injuries. Game time at the Sport Center is 8:00.
