LARAMIE, Wyo. — Central Christian College’s wrestling team took a partial squad to the Cowboy Open this past weekend, hosted by the University of Wyoming.
The Tigers’ Terrell Banuelos, expected to be one of the team’s mainstays, got off to a hot start by winning his first two matches. He was a 9-8 winner in his first match, then won by a fall. However, he was injured in his third match and lost by a fall. It was decided to scratch him the rest of the way.
JP Krussick, Josh Snook and Mason McCarty were all 0-2 on the day.
“I chose to open at a tournament featuring three Big 12 teams and many top D-II, NAIA and junior college teams so that our young wrestlers could experience what is needed to prepare for top competition,” Central coach Tom Carr said. “While many things did not go our way today, I was pleased to see the fight the team brought against more experienced competition. I look forward to taking these lessons with us going forward into the season."
Central heads to Bethany on Saturday.
