GODDARD — McPherson’s eighth-grade girls got off to a flying start on Tuesday by lambasting Goddard 52-8 in their basketball season opener.
Peyton Howard powered her way to 20 points and Ella Schmid chipped in with 16. Seven Bullpups in all scored.
“It was exciting for us to get on the court and compete against someone else,” MMS coach Jay Crawford said. “The ladies really competed hard and gave great effort. I really liked how well we shared the ball and looked to pitch the ball ahead. We were able to turn them over several times. But we also know there are many things to improve on and we will. We talk a lot about giving effort and I was so proud to see that each player played with great effort.”
The B-team pitched a 45-0 shutout as Harper Smith tallied 16 points and Kori Courtney furnished 12.
The Bullpups have a major test on Thursday when they host Maize South, which always gives them a tough game.
