It was a milestone night for McPherson eighth-grade girls basketball coach Jay Crawford here Thursday.
Crawford recorded his 150th win as MMS A-coach, which is staggering considering he’s coached only 177 Bullpup games.
The A-team was a 41-23 winner over Maize South behind 15 points by Ella Schmid and 14 more by Peyton Howard.
“The A-team was pushed in the third quarter and it was great to see how they responded,” Crawford said. “It showed me the fight they have in them and they were able to reach deep and make plays. Once they get comfortable with our style and pace of play, then they will see how we can turn teams over.”
The B-team won 31-8 as Emily Whorton led a balanced attack with 7 points.
“The B-team played very well and was able to push the ball and get some easy baskets,” Crawford said. “The effort which they played with was what we talk about daily in practice and I was proud of them. This group continues to guard and are moving as one group.”
