GODDARD — McPherson’s eighth-grade girls improved to 3-0 on Monday with a hard-earned 31-23 road basketball win over Goddard Eisenhower.
Ella Schmid led a balanced MMS offense with 9 points.
“Our first two games came rather easy and tonight we were pushed and things were not so easy,” MMS coach Jay Crawford said. “We saw that without being able to run our offense will make it difficult to move the ball from side to side, which did not allow us to attack on reversal ball movement. We started the game well and then got very stagnant on the offensive end. This group plays better when we run our offense through and play inside-out. We will continue to work at this at practice and play as a team.”
The B-team suffered its first loss after two wins, 30-26. Harper Smith and Kori Courtney scored 6 points apiece.
“Tonight the B-team was flustered by the fullcourt pressure that it had to face,” MMS coach Ellie Wingert said. “We had way too many turnovers. We had the lead and were not able to rebound or run our sets properly. We really struggled finishing around the rim This did give us a lot to work on in practice.”
