DERBY — McPherson’s seventh-grade girls basketball teams completed a long road trip on Monday by losing a pair of games to Derby North.
The A-team was outlasted 27-23 despite 8 points by Alexis Dukes.
“We came up short again tonight, but I am truly proud of the way the girls played,” MMS coach Kaleigh Troxell said. “They hustled after loose balls, fought for rebounds and never gave up. Alexis Dukes did a great job tonight. She was our leading scorer and contributed numerous blocks on the defensive end. We still have a lot to work on but it is fun to see the girls improving along the way.”
The B-team lost, 23-13. Faith White led the Bullpups with 6 points.
“Both us and Derby came out slow in the first half, part of it was due to good defense on our girls part,” MMS coach TJ Jackson said. “After half they started making some good shots and we just had a hard time keeping up on the offensive end. We saw a large improvements in many aspects of the girls overall game and there was no doubt tonight that the played hard the whole game. Proud of their growth and excited to see them keep that going.”
