McPherson’s eighth-grade A-girls blazed to a 35-16 victory over Hutchinson here Thursday and the B-team was solid as well in a 36-3 triumph as it was a clean basketball sweep for MMS.
The A-team was led by Peyton Howard with 16 points.
“The team was very excited for this game and when they really played well it was very nice to see them compete on both ends of the court,” MMS coach Jay Crawford said. “On the offensive side we are getting so much better at running our stuff with pace and timing, which is getting us some really good open looks. Defensively in the fourth quarter I challenged them to sit in a stance and really guard and they came out and put forth great effort and really got after it and took Hutch right out of what they were wanting to run. I was very proud of them and we know there is so much we are going to get better at.”
The B-team received a 14-point outburst from Kori Courtney.
“The 8th grade B-girls played a great game against Hutch tonight,” MMS coach Ellie Wingert said. “The girls ran their press nicely, which led to some breakaway layups. They came out strong and did a great job running different defenses tonight. The girls played tough and went after loose balls, which was very nice to see. This was their best rebounding game so far, and I’m excited to see what they do from here.”
The Bullpups host Salina Lakewood on Monday for the final game before the holiday break.
