SALINA — McPherson’s eighth-grade A-boys basketball team got back on the winning track on Monday by outlasting Salina Lakewood, 46-40.
Seth Madron fired in 25 points to lead the Bullpups, now 5-2, and Jayden Dukes chipped in with 11.
“I was pleased with our effort tonight,” MMS coach Tyler Brown said. “We also shot 66 percent from the free throw line, which was huge improvement in the A-game. With it only being a 2-point game late, we were able to knock down some free throws and close it out. We won every quarter but the first. Somehow we still have to be ready to start games and be better out of the gate. But we did close out and finish in the fourth quarter where in the past two games we have not played well in the first or the fourth. It felt really good to get the first win in our division.”
The B-team, now 1-3, was clipped 39-32 despite 11 points by Anthony Brooks.
“The B-team dropped another one, but I felt we played with tremendous effort,” Brown said. “We were shut out in the second quarter, not scoring a single basket, which was probably the difference in the game. It is awfully tough to win very many games when you go 6 minutes without scoring an entire quarter. If we didn't have that lapse I would of liked our chances. But much like the A-team we were slow to start and didn't really get things going until the second half.”
MMS A (46) — Madron 25, Dukes 11, Ediger 4, Morgan 4, Buckbee 2.
MMS B (32) — Brooks 11, Schriner 8, Sutherlin 7, James 3, Keane 3.
