EMPORIA — Central Christian College’s men’s basketball team put a scare into NCAA Division II Emporia State on Saturday afternoon at venerable White Auditorium.
The Tigers trailed the Hornets only 35-34 at the half and never allowed Emporia to totally pull away as the hosts eventually won, 72-60.
The game does not count toward the Tigers’ record since it’s considered an exhibition game for Central.
Jubril Osagie had a big game for the Tigers with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Cam Martin added 13 points.
Brandon Hall was a handful for the Tigers as he led Emporia State with 20. The Hornets won the game from 3-point, sinking 9 of 18 compared to just 3 of 14 for the Tigers.
Central, 7-4 on the season, is home on Thursday to take on defending NAIA national champion Texas Wesleyan in a Sooner Athletic Conference clash at Alexander Arena. Surprisingly, Texas Wesleyan is just 6-6 on the year 1-3 in the SAC.
Central (60) — Osagie 16, Martin 13, Warren 5, Ard II 5, Lenard 2, Williams 7, Arnada 6, Kuminga 4, Simpson 2.
Emporia (72) — Hall 20, Morton 10, Limuel 6, Hluchoweckyj 5, Emergy 4, Thomas 16, Vandiver 9, Shell 2.
