McPherson College’s basketball teams make their 2018 Sport Center debuts on Saturday when Bethel College makes the short trip up the interstate from North Newton.
The women’s game is set for 5 p.m. at the Sport Center and the men go at 7.
The Bulldog women will be trying to protect their perfect home record. They are 8-0 at home, but only 1-7 on the road as they are 9-7 overall, 5-4 in the KCAC. They will be trying to snap a three-game losing streak overall, losing all of them at the Mabee Arena in Salina, two of them in tournament play.
This is a game the Bulldogs can’t afford to look past. Bethel just won its first KCAC game on Wednesday after starting 0-8 and is 5-12 overall. But in both games last year against the Threshers, the Bulldogs had to survive a pair of close upset bids.
In the men’s game, the Bulldogs are still looking for that elusive first KCAC victory after coming so close in recent games. They let big leads get away against both York College and Kansas Wesleyan and they are 0-9 in conference play, 3-14 overall. On Wednesday, the Bulldogs were up 17 on Wesleyan early in the second half, only to see the Coyotes end the game on an incredible 37-10 run.
Bethel enters the game 3-6 in the KCAC and 5-11 overall. It has, however, won its last two games.
