Brown sworn in as Mayor

After winning the mayoral race in November’s election, Mayor Thomas A. Brown was officially sworn in as the mayor of McPherson for another term at the Jan. 8, 2018, McPherson City Commission meeting.

In his sworn oath, Brown said:

“I, Thomas A. Brown, do solemnly swear, to support the constitution and the laws of the United States. And the constitution and the laws of the state of Kansas. And faithfully, and to the best of my ability, while doing my duties devolving upon me, as Mayor of the city of McPherson, so help me God.”

“I, Thomas A. Brown, swear that I do not advocate, nor am I a member, of any political part or organization that advocates the overthrow of the government of the United States or the state of Kansas by force or by violence. And that during such time that I am an officer, or an employee of the city of McPherson, Kansas, I will not advocate nor become a member of any political party or organization that advocates the overthrow of the government of the United States or the state of Kansas by force or by violence.”

Brown has been an integral part of McPherson passing the recent Half-Cent Sales Tax Renewal from 2017.

Mayor Brown has been serving McPherson as mayor since April 2009. He is a member of South Central Kansas Economic Development District Board, Chairman of the Kansas Eastern Regional Insurance Trust, and former Executive Vice President, Farmer Alliance Mutual Insurance Company.

Brown was raised in Ohio, like General James Birdseye McPherson. He served with the United States Marine Corps in Vietnam and was combat wounded. He obtained his MBA from University of Colorado, Colorado Springs.
