McPherson High’s home bowling opener was a smashing success.

The Bullpup teams swept Wichita Collegiate on Friday at Starlite Lanes, the boys taking a 2,240-2,016 decision, while the Spartan girls didn’t have a full team, losing 1,734-794.

Clayton Ouellette and Brooke Miller were the standouts of the day.

“Clayton performed well by getting lined up early and was able to bowl well,” MHS coach Herb Halinski said. “He helped the others out by watching ball reactions and talking to teammates. Brooke Miller had a great day and carried the girls team. Heidi (Allen), Naomy (Aguilar), and Birkley (Schwartz) are all newcomers to the team and had never seen anything like this before, the other girls tried to keep them calm.”

Ouellette far and away led the MHS boys with a solid 636, with a high of 230. Miller had a 541, with a high of 188.

Halinski also was pleased with Matt Stiggins, whose 568 was runner-up.

“Matt Stiggins also had a decent home opener,” Halinski said. “Dylan Krehbiel was a little nervous, but gave 110 percent effort. The boys made some mistakes on spares and we will continue to work on those.”
