WINFIELD — It was the closest thing to a perfect quarter that the McPherson High boys have had this year.

MHS riddled Winfield for 12 of 15 shots in the first quarter to pile up 31 points and it didn't get much better for the Vikings the rest of the way as they were buried under an avalanche of points, 82-43.

It was the 14th win in a row for the Bullpups to match the girls' 16-1 record as both teams are steaming toward sub-state the first weekend of March at the Roundhouse. The MHS boys have a huge game coming up on Friday at Buhler, which gave MHS its toughest league game this season. The Bullpups are 7-0 within the division.

Ben Pyle scored 14 first-quarter points, had 19 for the half and finished with 27 as he knocked down 12 of 16 shots. Mason Alexander scored 16 and had several nice assists, while Jayse Alexander came off the bench to tie his career high with 13, making his first 4 shots. Jake Alexander gave MHS four players in double figures with 10.

MHS took the normally loud Viking crowd out of the game from the get-go, rocketing to a 31-12 lead. The Bullpups made 10 of their first 11 shots. It was a 52-19 game at the half.

"It was a really good offensive effort I thought," MHS coach Kurt Kinnamon said. "Especially from an assist standpoint, especially in the first half. I thought in the second half we didn't move the ball quite as well. First half we did a great job, we didn't end up making one extra pass but two extra passes. We were able to score in transition off our defense."

MHS finished the game 32 of 58 from the field and did not miss a free throw as it was 8 of 8 in the loosely called game.

Jordan Mays led the Vikings with 14.

The MHS JVs were a 77-43 winner as Aren Trost powered his way to 21 points, Hayes Schmid knocked down 14 and Kyler Hoppes added 10.

The ninth-grade boys, who are playing four games in five days, came away with a 52-39 success. Adam Elliott stayed on his serious roll with 20 points and Eli Pyle furnished 10.
