BROOKVILLE – Armed with its newly minted No. 6 state ranking in Class 2-1A, the Inman baseball team overwhelmed Ell-Saline twice on Tuesday as the Teutons opened league play.
Game 1 was an 18-0 rout as Landon Snyder and Derick Johnson combined to throw a no-hitter. Snyder went 3 innings and fanned 5, while Johnson whiffed 4 in his 2 innings.
“Both guys were sharp and pounded the zone,” Inman coach Matt Mikulecky said. “We were productive up and down the lineup, which is something we need to maintain if we want to be a really good team down the stretch.”
Jayden Leonhardt led the offense by going 3 for 4. Carson Munoz was 2 for 3 and pounded a homer that blew the game open. Johnson, Snyder, Kyler Konrade and Brant Mikulecky all added 2 hits.
Game 2 was another stroll, 12-0. Munoz went 2 2/3 innings and fanned 7, while Konrade and Carter Brown pitched the final 2 1/3 and fanned 6 and nearly all of the Cardinals’ outs were via the strikeout. Munoz and Konrade led the way with 2 hits apiece and Leonhardt was lauded for his defensive work behind the plate. “He is a difference maker back there,” Mikulecky said.
Inman is now 5-1 on the season.
